The location on which the investigation works have been conducted is located in the technological industrial development zone TIDZ Bunardzik 2 and has been planned for construction of bus factory. In order to determine the physical and mechanical, as well as the classification characteristics of the soil layers which are important for the selection of the horizon for founding and dimensioning of the foundations, first, a prospection of the terrain was conducted which was followed by geodetic survey and geomechanical investigation works (geomechanical drilling of investigation boreholes, as well as excavating trial pits with parallel mapping and taking samples for laboratory testing).
Field trials of standard dynamic penetration (SPT) have also been conducted. An elaborate, in which the results obtained from field and laboratory testing, as well as graphic part in which the individual and longitudinal profiles of the terrain are presented, has been prepared.
It has been established with the investigation works that the location is of relatively simple structure, with two units standing out: medium to highly plastic sandy clays of the group CI and CI/GFc, and clay sands and gravels of the group SFc and GFc. No occurrence of groundwater has been registered to a depth of 10.00 m. In accordance with the design requirements, a shallow horizon of founding t=1.30 m has been selected.
Characteristic for the location is that the morphology of the terrain conditions the founding for one part to be done in an excavation, and for the other in an embankment. In accordance with this conditionality, calculations for allowable load on the base for a rectangular foundation in excavation and in embankment have been performed, as well as calculations for allowable settling of the base.
